16 whole cloves
4 (3-in.) cinnamon sticks
3 star anise pods
1 lemon, sliced
1 sweet red apple, such as Honeycrisp, sliced
1/2 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
1 Tbsp. orange peel strips
3 sprigs fresh thyme
4 cups water
Directions
- Place all ingredients in a medium saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes. Add more water as needed and continue simmering.
